I learned about a bunch of Web 2.0 applications and website design and planning. Websites are pretty complicated and many are written in a language called Hyper Text Markup Language or HTML. HTML is very specific so it takes a good programmer to know how to make a well-designed site. Although, some use author software which writes the HTML for them. As time progresses, HTML is slowly getting replaced by XHTML, which is just a neater and stricter version of HTML. XHTML uses ONLY lowercase letters and ALL tags are closed.
I also learned how to make a podcast. It's really simple! I just used Garage Band to record myself. I also made a cool video using Animoto. I uploaded my pictures and music and it generated my video. Super easy! I embedded both my podcast and Animoto video to my blog. I love how easy it is to share my creations with the world! Lastly I created a website using Google Sites on the topic of Web Accessibility. I found this quite informative on why we should make sure people with disabilities have equal access to the web.
I feel my participation has been good this module. The only thing I missed was the HTML extra credit opportunity, but I don't think that will have a negative effect on me.

There was a lot of information in this section. I learned more about FTP and P2P file sharing. Its really astonishing how many people think it's okay to steal music from P2P file sharing sites like Limewire. This is especially surprising because of all the harmful viruses that are so easily spread this way.
I also learned about images and their significance in the world and media today. It is important to optimize images for the internet when posting them on a website. These images can be either bit-mapped (raster) images or vector images. Raster images are made up of small dots so they lose quality when resized to a larger size. Vector images don't lose quality because they are made up of mathmatical calculations rather than dots. There are so many different types of images, and most can be optimized in Photoshop.
Through Web 2.0, it is so easy in this day and age to collaborate and communicate. Its all about making connections. There's taggin, micro-blogging, social networking, file sharing, and all of it is used to make our lives faster and easier. We're even mashing up these ideas so we can do multiple at once! The future looks like it can only get pieced together for us faster. With Web 3.0, searches will be a cinch.
My participation has been right on par for the course. I'm interested in these new ideas and creation and love learning about them. Jing has to be my favorite Web 2.0 tool.

In this section I have learned a lot about the various methods for online collaboration and communication. There are so many different Web 2.0 applications that allow for easier networking. Through virtual worlds like Second Life, people, coworkers, and business affiliates from around the world can meet and discuss topics, representing themselves as avatars. If you want a real life visual of who you are talking to, you can use an online meeting site like Yugma to hold a video meeting. Social networking sites such as Facebook and Myspace allow for people to stay in touch and promote bands. People can collaborate through Wikis and update their followers through microblogging sites like Twitter. I also learned about asynchronous communication verses synchronous communication. Synchronous is when both communicating parties are online at the same time conversing, such as chat. Asynchronous is when both parties are not online at the same time. Emails are asynchronous communication.
My participation has been good. As for the group presentation, my partner took initiative and completed the majority of the project in the first few days. I elaborated, but the work was basically done. I would have done more if there was more to do.

This section has been very useful in helping me become more internet and search savvy. I have learned of the multiple ways to search the in internet using a variety of search engines. For example, there are meta search engines and directories. These can be much more efficient and productive in a search than just googling something. From the discussion Forums, it looks like DMOZ.org is a popular directory to search. I also learned about what actually happens when a search is made, including spider bots and indexes. Boolean searches are also helpful in narrowing down searches using AND, OR, or NOT. Digital Citizenship is important, including proper netiquette. People should know how to behave when online.
Before this section, I had been unfamiliar with Information Fluency. Now I much more aware of what it takes to be productive in school and the working world in the 21st century. These are some of the basic skills needed to be information fluent:

-Manage Goals and Time
-Interact Effectively with Others
-Manage Projects
-Guide and Lead Others
-Access and Evaluate Information
-Analyze Media
-Apply Technology Effectively
The deep web is also a very valuable tool in finding credible information on topics. It holds information I can't find in a simple Google search, including scholarly journals. Information Privacy is something to keep in mind whenever you search the web. You should always read a website's privacy policy before you give them any of your personal information.
My participation has been up to par for this module. I am still putting in the necessary effort. I may want to add in more study time so I can raise my grade on the next test.
